Looking for a natural fiber, fitted diaper that is made in the USA? Look no further! Thirsties has delivered with this soft, cotton and bamboo blend. Bamboo keeps it feeling soft and stretchy, even after many washes!
The newborn size is great because it features that handy snap for umbilical cord healing (it dips lower to allow for the cord to fall off and heal with minimal friction from a diaper!). And we all know that one-size diapers are typically GIGANTIC on a newborn! To top it all off, it is way absorbent for a newborn diaper (we are talking 7 layers of bamboo/cotton)! Some babies begin to pee through certain newborn diapers after just a few weeks; not so with the Thirsties Fitted! Elasticized legs and back do well to keep messes in too!
The one-size version is especially popular for night time, with 11 layers of bamboo/cotton (3 layers in the body and 8 in the wet zone). We find that for night time, once a child gets a bit older and especially if he or she is a heavy wetter, you simply must have a diaper on that provides absorbency all around the body (not just in the wet zone) in order to have adequate protection. In general, we feel that one size diaper begin to fit well around the 12 lb. mark, so once baby is out of newborn diapers, this will do the trick! Do you want your little one to stay dry, even in a wet diaper? Add a stay-dry liner! Sometimes these can help a baby sleep longer (because they aren't being roused by the wetness) and also minimize the potential for irritation that being in a wet diaper for a prolonged amount of time can cause.

How to prepare for first use
Because bamboo/cotton retains its natural oils, it's important to remove this waxy outer fiber layer before using them for the first time. We recommend washing them with hot sudsy water and drying them in the dryer at least three times before their first use. (That's wash - dry - wash - dry - wash - dry). To test if they're ready to use, make a pocket in the diaper and pour half a cup of water into it. If the water is not readily absorbed, then they should be washed and dried more. Thirsties fitted diapers will be fully absorbent by about 8 washes/dries.
We recommend washing your Thirsties fitteds by themselves during this break-in period (or with other diapers that also need to have these oils removed). This will reduce pilling and prevent the oils from the bamboo/cottom from coating other diapers, causing them to repel water, rather than absorb it.
